the sun came up today – out today.
\nit is beautiful and brightblinding.
\nit is sweater warm and then pan hot.<\/p>\n
i buy two packs of cigarettes
\nand walk home from the corner store.<\/p>\n
on the way, in the complex of apartments that i live in,
\ni pass the pool.
\nit is shallow,
\nand the tiles laid around it direct you not to dive.<\/p>\n
when i first moved here,
\nthe pool was a deeply sick, cloudy green.<\/p>\n
today, the sun’s light refracts off the contours
\nof its crystal rippling ugly-smooth surface.<\/p>\n
my toes peek out of the holes of my old shoes
\nat the lower frame of my vision.
\none of them is bleeding.<\/p>\n
as i stare into the patterns that appear,
\nand play with each other,
\nacross a halfway dense collection of H2O molecules
\n(gathered here for the entertainment of a small
\npopulation of lower-middle-class to poverty line
\nliving human beings)
\ni begin to think and feel tired.<\/p>\n
i crash my body onto a white plastic chaise lounge,
\na number of which are arranged around the pool.<\/p>\n
the surface under my ass,
\nmade up of many parallel crossbars,
\nis broken wholely down the center.<\/p>\n
as i fall through the flexing pinchers it creates
\ni catch and raise myself back up.<\/p>\n
upon lifting and replacing myself gently,
\ni am light enough
\n(after the initial impact of the sleepy, sunny dropping
\nof my body)
\nto rest on the unsupported dry white plastic,
\nand so i rest here.<\/p>\n
the sun warms and then burns the dry white plastic bones
\nbeneath my thin flesh.
\nmy eyes droop in the hot morning light.<\/p>\n
it has been raining for a week.
\nit has been stuffed grey for over a week.
